According to the Ganzhou Municipal People's Government, Nankang District of Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, has successfully led the traditional furniture industry to achieve green transformation by innovating the party-building model for the industrial chain. It has turned an environmental pressure pain point into a green model for high-quality development, providing a Nankang solution for the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries nationwide.

After 30 years of development, the Nankang furniture industry has become a pillar industrial cluster with annual output value exceeding 280 billion yuan and nearly 500,000 jobs. However, rapid industrial development was once accompanied by homogeneous competition and environmental pollution. Facing the pressure of central environmental inspections and the urgent need for industrial survival and development, Nankang District made party building in the modern furniture industrial chain the key to breaking through. It innovatively established a comprehensive party committee for the industrial chain and built a one committee, four ends organizational system, coordinating the four major ends of raw materials, design, manufacturing, and sales, and guiding resources to gather at the front line of transformation.

Source substitution becomes the key breakthrough

Compared with traditional end-of-pipe treatment, Nankang clearly defined the technical route of replacing oil-based paint with water-based paint, and fully promoted environmentally friendly water-based paint as a substitute for traditional oil-based paint. Led by the comprehensive party committee of the industrial chain, a doctoral team from China Agricultural University and innovative enterprises were introduced to promote the implementation of key technologies such as Q-POSS coatings, solving environmental problems from the source.

Party building leads the effort to overcome transformation difficulties

The technology implementation process faced multiple forms of resistance, including restructuring of interest chains, changes in operating habits, and renewal of ideas. Nankang gave full play to the role of party organizations as fighting fortresses and party members as pioneers and models. Party-member enterprises and party-member paint sprayers took the lead in trials, creating a demonstration effect. At the same time, special work teams were established, and 216 Luban Red Stewards were assigned to enterprises for precise assistance based on one policy for one enterprise. Supporting policies such as interest-subsidized loans and water-paint loans were also provided, helping enterprises apply for more than 31 million yuan in central subsidy funds and effectively easing the pain of transformation.

Green transformation delivers significant results and strong market response

Under the leadership of party organizations, more than 95 percent of spraying enterprises in Nankang have completed the transformation from oil-based paint to water-based paint. VOCS concentration has dropped 98 percent, and 3,900 tons of hazardous waste are reduced each year. Green product certification has achieved breakthroughs, and market competitiveness has improved significantly. Since 2025, the plan of 100 cities, 1,000 stores, and 10,000 merchants has accelerated, and green and healthy Nankang furniture has been well received at domestic and overseas exhibitions, with transaction volume multiplying.

The transformation practice of the Nankang furniture industry vividly illustrates a high-quality development path of strong party building, green industry, and prosperous people, showing the powerful red momentum gathered by party building in the industrial chain.
