According to the Ministry of Commerce website, the U.S. government has decided to postpone for one year its plan to raise tariffs on certain imported furniture products. Under a proclamation signed by President Trump on December 31, 2025, the tariff increase originally scheduled for January 1, 2026, on upholstered chairs, cabinets, bathroom vanities, and related products will now take effect on January 1, 2027.The U.S. side stated that this move is intended to create room for trade negotiations and help ensure economic security and supply chain stability.

Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade explained that this U.S. adjustment postpones the tariff increase rather than postponing tariff collection. This means that wood products exported to the United States still need to continue paying tariffs of 10% and 25% under Section 232.
