What is the difference between MES systems and ERP systems? What are their distinctions? With the rapid development of China's industrial era, enterprise management systems have emerged and continue to improve enterprise management and production through powerful functions. The two main systems in use are MES and ERP. So what are the differences between them, and where exactly do they differ?
1. Different service targets
ERP is at the command layer and mainly serves enterprise management. It can involve human resources, finance, and other fields, and mainly provides functions such as document entry, confirmation, information notification, and approval, enabling information to circulate across departments.MES is at the execution layer and is specifically aimed at factory manufacturing. Through its core functions, data collection plays a role in quality control, process control, and traceability, and it is the foundation of intelligent manufacturing.

2. Different management objects
ERP software is generally used in the service industry or distribution industry because it can clearly and explicitly show service process progress. MES is mainly used in production and manufacturing industries, where the degree of demand is determined by product information needs.
3. Different management functions
The main functions of ERP are to formulate production plans and collect production data. In addition to refining production plans, production progress, and collecting production data, MES also has management functions for batch-level production control and scheduling.
ERP realizes management through form filling and form transfer. Generally, tasks are conveyed and collected in the form of forms. MES systems realize management through events. Changes in production orders and on-site manufacturing conditions trigger the built-in WIP engine, and management is carried out through the trigger engine while requiring related personnel and equipment to take corresponding actions. In this way, manual data entry can be reduced, thereby reducing errors and greatly improving timeliness.
5. Different management scope
The scope managed by ERP is relatively broader than that of MES, while MES management is finer than ERP. ERP also includes management of enterprise production data, such as production planning, data collection, material management, and quality management, and manages them at the unit level. On the basis of ERP, MES can be more detailed, clearly assigning, tracking, executing, monitoring, and collecting data for each process as well as carrying out on-site scheduling.
